Elon Musk Transforming 007 Lotus Esprit Submarine Car

Elon Musk Transforming 007 Lotus Esprit Submarine Car

The iconic Lotus Esprit submarine car that featured in the 1977 Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me, has been snatched up by no other than Tesla’s Elon Musk.
News has surfaced that Musk won the auction for the car with a bid of $866,000. What is even more interesting is Musk’s plan for the said vehicle.

Through Jalopnik he said: “It was amazing as a little kid in South Africa to watch James Bond in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ drive his Lotus Esprit off a pier, press a button and have it transform into a submarine underwater. I was disappointed to learn that it can’t actually transform. What I’m going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain and try to make it transform for real.”

Elon Musk has quite a job on his hands, as making an electric submarine that can also drive on land is no mean feat. The engineer team will need to find a way of making the car safely transform from a land car to a sea vessel capable of dealing with salt water. Another challenge will be overcoming the natural downforce created by the Lotus’ bodywork, which sends the vehicle sinking to the sea floor.
However, seeing as this is Elon Musk we’re talking about, aka Tony Stark, perhaps it’s not such a difficult task after all.

How to Switch to Old Yahoo Mail

So it’s been several weeks now that everyone’s been complaining about the new Yahoo Mail and how they can’t find anything, the folders are no longer in plain view and buttons are missing, not to mention various other glitches.

About a week back, I provided a solution involving the simple removal of a word in the URL. However, the fix is only temporary, it disappears once you log out or close the tab and doesn’t even seem to work for everyone, which may also be an issue related to the browser they use.
How to Switch to Old Yahoo Mail

There is another way to get your old Yahoo Mail back. And when I say “old,” I do mean “old,” since this method will get you to an older, basic, version of the service and not the one they just retired.

Anyway, getting it back is quite simple if you follow these steps.

In the new Yahoo Mail, click on the gear icon in the top-right corner and choose “Settings” from the menu. Once the new panel appears, go to “Viewing email,” which is the second entry (*check out the screenshot at the beginning of the article).

At the bottom of the page, you can view “Mail Version” where “Full featured” will be enabled and which Yahoo recommends.

Clicking on “Basic” will take you back to an older version of the service that lacks a lot of the design features and plainly offers an actually usable email service.

Once you open up an email in this interface, the Delete button is right in the top ribbon, as well as Reply and Forward and other actions are also present, such as moving to a folder or giving the email a marking. Printing is a bit more difficult and I’d actually recommend just hitting Ctrl+P rather than clicking the “Full Header Printable View” button.

This solution might not last forever since Yahoo has the habit of switching everyone over to the newest version after a while. Hopefully, it will last long enough for things to improve.

Let me know if this works for you.

Credit Card replacement Dwolla Credit

Dwolla is slowly but surely working towards its goal of bypassing the credit card system for consumers and retailers. The online payment system helps people to move their cash around at the click of a mouse or tap of a smartphone button. The two most appealing factors of Dwolla are that users can transfer funds in real time without paying over the odds transaction fees. Now though, the online payment company have gone one step further by offering Dwolla Credit to its customers.
Credit Card replacement Dwolla Credit
Dwolla Credit is a lot like the financial credit you would expect from any credit card company only no credit card is used. Users will simply have an allotted amount of money available to them which is accessible through Dwolla. Dwolla Credit can be used by consumers to pay for goods in the ecommerce community, B2B or even peer to peer. The additional sum can be used for any reason and paid to any other Dwolla user. The fees will be just as the Dwolla Cash service; no fee for transactions under $10 and a standard fee of $0.25 for anything over.
In order to achieve a trusted, secure credit system that works for everyone, Dwolla has partnered with Alliance Data Systems Corporation (ADS). ADS is a provider of many branded credit card programs and will be using their expertise in this area to conduct all the necessary procedures that you would expect from a credit provider. Users will be assessed and approved in the normal way with ADS setting the credit limit, APR and settling any disputes etc.
Online retailers will be able to choose how they would like to integrate the Dwolla Credit option on their websites through either plug-ins or customized checkout options. To begin with, over 40 businesses who use Dwolla at the moment will go on to utilize the Dwolla Credit system as part of the beta test process. Dwolla expects to roll out the full scale Dwolla Credit to consumers in 2014.

samsung galaxy round curved screen

samsung galaxy round curved screen

Today, the barrier between smartphone and Pringles chip has become slightly thinner. Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Round, a 5.7-inch AMOLED display'd handset with a slight lengthwise curve. The phone will go on sale in South Korea beginning next week. There's no official word on availability for any other markets.
Rumors of a curved-display phone from Samsung have been bouncing around for afew weeks. The Galaxy Round is in many ways a curved version of the Galaxy Note 3, which both boast the same screen size. Additionally, the Round is very similar specwise to its flatter cousin, though it weighs in slightly more anemic (7.9 mm thick and 154 grams versus 8.3 mm and 168 grams) and boasts a slightly less brawny battery (only 2800mAh versus the Note's 3200mAh).

dram prices jump after hynix manufacturing facility fire

DRAM supplies from Hynix's fabrication (fab) plant in Wuxi, China, aren't expected to return to normal until next year after a fire severely damaged that facility, according to a new report.
In the meantime, DRAM prices are up 35 percent since the fire, as looming supply constraints prevail and there appears to be no rush by DRAM makers to sign new contracts, according to the report from analysts at investment bank PiperJaffray.

Logitech UE Mobile Boombox Upgraded by Ultimate Ears

Logitech UE Mobile Boombox Upgraded by Ultimate Ears

Logitech UE Mini Boom
Ultimate Ears and Logitech have worked together to enhance the audio experience of the UE Mobile Boombox series of speakers.

Called UE Mini Boom, the newcomer is a personal speaker that can be carried wherever you go.

It has a battery that lasts for 10 hours and powers not just the sound (clear high, deep bass), but also the Bluetooth module that allows for wireless link to phones, tablets, laptops, PCs, music players, etc.

In fact, the new Boombox should be able to pick up signal for up to 50 feet / 15 meters. Obstacles and walls will affect the strength, but since the UE Mini Boom is bound to end up outdoors during a hiking trip, that's not such a big turnoff.

Logitech Ultimate Ears UE Mini Boom is shipping for $99.99 / €73.62, in orange, purple, red, yellow and black.

new firmware update for onkyo network

new firmware update for onkyo network

Interrupting the power to the network receiver while updating will cause malfunctions
Onkyo has recently released new firmware for some of its network audio/video receivers. The targeted products are TX-NR525, TX-NR626, TX-NR727, TX-NR828, TX-NR929, HT-RC560 and the new update adds support of Control4 Simple Device Discovery Protocol.

The installation procedure requires a USB flash drive and the contents of the archive you download, if you decide to update. The flashing will take up to 40 minutes, so I recommend you start it when you have the time.

Interrupting the power to the network receiver while updating will cause malfunctions or, in some cases, just a firmware update failure (and you'll need to start all over again).

Windows 8 users now outnumber Mac addicts

Windows 8 users now outnumber Mac addicts

It took 11 months, but Microsoft's Windows 8 has passed Apple's OS X in market share, according to StatCounter.
StatCounter's numbers for September show 7.46 percent market share for Windows 8, an increase of 0.44 percent over the previous month. That was enough to surpass Mac market share, which dropped 0.2 percentage points to 6.98 percent.
See that tangled mess of colored lines at the bottom? Windows 8 and OS X are slugging it out in there, while Windows 7 and XP are the clear OS leaders. (Click to enlarge.)

SkyDrive integration is a key part of the upcoming update

Not only is cloud storage service SkyDrive set to become an integral part of Windows with the upcoming Windows 8.1 update, but Redmond is also trying to make the whole thing smarter. To this end, the company has introduced “smart files.”
A new SkyDrive feature built right into Windows 8.1, smart files are essentially placeholder files and thumbnails that make it possible for the user to interact with their entire SkyDrive without having to first download each and every file, thereby conserving both local disk space and Internet bandwidth.

WhatsApp Messenger for iOS 7 – This Is How It Should Look
WhatsApp for iOS 7 concept
As I wrote earlier today, WhatsApp is in desperate need of a makeover. As one of the most popular iOS apps in existence, the IM client has no excuse to still live in the iOS 6 era with iOS 7 installed on almost every handset out there.

I’d like to think web designer Timo Wever found his inspiration in my article from earlier today, but I wouldn’t flatter myself like that. Instead, I’ll just show it to you.

Lumia 520 Sequel Leaks as Nokia Glee

Nokia Lumia 520
Rumors on the upcoming Nokia devices expected to be unveiled at Nokia World 2013 continue to pour in. We already suspect that the Finnish company will announce its first phablet (Lumia 1520) and tablet (Lumia 2520) and now another device has leaked online.
According to evleaks, Nokia Lumia 520's successor will be announced later this month as well. The phone is known as Lumia 525, but also as Nokia Glee.
Unfortunately, there are no details on the smartphone's specs sheet, though we expect the Lumia 525 to follow the same hardware configuration of its predecessor with slight improvements on display and processor possibly.

Facebook expands Graph Search to include posts and status updates
facebook_zuck_graph_search_3.jpg
Facebook said Monday it was expanding the capabilities of its "Graph Search" function to help users navigate and find information within postings on the world's biggest social network.
"Starting Monday, Graph Search will include posts and status updates. Now you will be able to search for status updates, photo captions, check-ins and comments to find things shared with you," the company said in a statement.
"Search for the topics you're interested in and see what your friends are saying, like 'Dancing with the Stars' or 'Posts about Dancing with the Stars by my friends.'"
Facebook launched the service in January in an effort to help members better navigate the vast amount of information on Facebook, which is not available on Web search engines such as Google. But at the time, it lacked detailed information from member postings.

Twitter Could Disclose IPO Papers This Week

Twitter Could Disclose IPO Papers This Week

The anticipation surrounding Twitter’s IPO is rising and there are plenty of rumors going around about when the company will actually go public.
The company seems to be getting ready to make public its secret filing for the initial public offering as early as this week, the Wall Street Journalreports, quoting people familiar with the matter.
Over the past several weeks, there were rumors indicating the company’s stock would be available in October or early November, ahead of Thanksgiving.
If the files are made public, then things could happen according to the schedule.
The IPO is one of the most anticipated events of recent years, ranking up next to Facebook. However, the offering will be far smaller than that of the social network, mostly because Twitter has a lot less revenue than Facebook.
Twitter announced it had filed for a confidential IPO via its own platform. This means that its revenues over the past 12 months were under $1 billion (€740 million), which also allows the company to keep its financial situation a secret for a while longer.

HTC One X+ Receiving Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update in India

HTC One X+ Receiving Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update in India

htcGood news for HTC One X+ owners in India, as the Taiwanese handset maker has just kicked off the rollout of the long-awaited Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean upgrade for their favorite smartphones.
According to AndroidOS, the update is now pushed OTA (over the air) to all HTC One X+ devices in India, but the procedure could take about one week.
HTC announced back in August that it had started to deliver the highly anticipated Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update to One X+ devices, but it took the update more than a month to reach India.
Keep in mind that this is a major update that contains the new HTC Sense 5 user interface. Software build number 2.18.707.5 is about 408MB in size and can be downloaded over Wi-Fi.
HTC One X+ owners should head over to Settings / About phone / System updates / Check now in order to check for the update’s availability.

iPhone 6 A8 Chip to Be Mostly Manufactured by TSMC

iPhone 6 A8 Chip to Be Mostly Manufactured by TSMC

DigiTimes is citing reports from Korea as saying that TSMC has finally grabbed the bulk of Apple’s A8 chip orders for next year, leaving just a small slice of the pie for rival Samsung Electronics.
Citing Korea’s Hankyung, the Taiwanese trade publication revelas that “Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will handle the majority of the manufacturing for Apple's next-generation A8 processors, and the remainder will go to Samsung Electronics.”
The paper doesn’t link to the report in question, but adds that TSMC is expected to cover 60-70% of the production, leaving the remainder (30-40%) to the South Korean maker of smartphones and chips.

Google Lands Second Spot on World's Most Valuable Brands

Google becomes the world's second most valuable brand

Coca Cola has finally lost its brand supremacy after 13 years spent leading the list. It hasn’t just slipped to the second place, as Apple took over, but rather to the third, coming after Google.

According to the brand new Interbrand list, Google has climbed two spots in the past year, as it only took up the fourth place in 2012. Now, however, it has reached the second position, with a 34 percent increase in value over the last year.

Facebook, the Year’s Fastest Rising Brand

Facebook, the Year’s Fastest Rising Brand

Facebook's brand has the biggest growth of all companies
Apple, Google and Coca Cola might take up the top positions in Interbrand’s list of the most valuable brands out there, but Facebook takes the cake when it comes to growth.
The social network’s brand ranks 52nd, with a value of $7,732 million (€5,726 million). The best part, however, is that it has grown 43 percent over the last year alone. That’s huge.
