new firmware update for onkyo network

new firmware update for onkyo network

Interrupting the power to the network receiver while updating will cause malfunctions
Onkyo has recently released new firmware for some of its network audio/video receivers. The targeted products are TX-NR525, TX-NR626, TX-NR727, TX-NR828, TX-NR929, HT-RC560 and the new update adds support of Control4 Simple Device Discovery Protocol.

The installation procedure requires a USB flash drive and the contents of the archive you download, if you decide to update. The flashing will take up to 40 minutes, so I recommend you start it when you have the time.

Interrupting the power to the network receiver while updating will cause malfunctions or, in some cases, just a firmware update failure (and you'll need to start all over again).

Before you start, set the “HDMI Control(RIHD)” setting to “Off” as well as the controller device connected via Ethernet cable and Multi Zone (if this function is present). Stop playback of any content.

Copy all the folders from the archive to the root of the FAT32 formatted USB memory stick and safely remove it from the PC. Make sure the TV and receiver are on and plug it into its port.

Next, select the USB input source and wait (up to 30 seconds) for the USB device initializing. When that is done, press RECEIVER followed by HOME on the remote control and navigate through the home menu, selecting the “Firmware Update” option.

Pick “Update via USB” and confirm the setup in the next screen. The installation will begin and, when it completes, the receiver will show a message on its display.

Remove the USB device and press the ON/STANDBY button on the front panel. Do not use the remote control for this operation.

If you've done everything right, the updated version of the firmware should now be installed.
