WikiLeaks Server Gets Bought by Teenager
In an unexpected turn of events, the WikiLeaks server that was put up for auction might not end up with the new owner, since the highest bidder is a 17-year-old.
Not only did the teenager auction for the server, but he used his father’s credit card to do it without his permission, Wired reports.
It seems the winner bid some eight times during the auction period, starting at $10,200 (€7,670) and eventually won the auction with $33,000 (€25,000).
Of course, the father was left speechless when he heard of his son’s actions and describes the youngster as “crazy about conspiracy theory.”
The server in question once used to be rented by WikiLeaks and it was used to host the Iraq War documents. It was unplugged in June 2011 and has since been wiped clean of all data in accordance to DoD specifications, which means nothing can ever be recovered.
The money was supposed to be given to two organizations fighting for freedom of speech.
