We have already seen two Sony Xperia smartphones
with stunning 1080p displays, but it seems the Japanese giant is not
satisfied with just the couple. A mysterious handset, presently known
only as the C670X, will join the Xperia Z and ZL in the full HD display
game this year. The information was sent to XperiaBlog from
a tipster, who the website claims has a good record of leaking handsets
and details of upcoming phones. Of course, you must add salt to taste.
In
terms of raw specs, the Sony C670X is expected to come with a slightly
smaller display than the Xperia Z (Model number: C660X). Its 4.8-inch
display will only be slightly larger than the HTC One’s screen and will
have a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. C670X will be powered
by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064T) SoC with each of its four cores
clocked at 1.8GHz. The processor is coupled with Adreno 320 graphics and
2GB RAM.
There’s more: C670X will have 32GB of internal storage space, and going
by Sony’s recent phones, it could also feature a microSD card slot to
augment that. On the back is a 13-megapixel camera based on the Exmor RS
sensor, the same one seen on the Xperia Z, so you can expect it to have
HDR video too. XperiaBlog says the phone is due to launch in the middle
of 2013 with Android 4.2.
Besides this info, the tipster also
sent the blog a render of the device. It doesn’t look too different from
the Xperias Z and ZL, but there is a clear distinction. Judging by the
render alone, it’s hard to tell where the C670X will have a heavy,
glass-based design like the Xperia Z or a more durable aluminium-based
shell. The top of the phone includes a front-facing camera, a
notification LED, an ambient light sensor and a proximity sensor.
It
seems the picture has also been used in the setup guide for the Xperia
Z, but it is most certainly not that phone. So it could be a generic
Sony-created render intended as a placeholder image instead of the
actual device. We find it highly unlikely that Sony’s website
development team could have goofed up by inadvertently using this
mystery device’s render in the Xperia Z manual, but that is also a
possibility. Another thing that raised our eyebrows was there are no
icons on the screen. The wallpaper is the same as the one used in the
promotional images for the Xperia Z and ZL and the Xperia Tablet Z.
