The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has been
floating around the rumour mills for quite some time and now more
details regarding the build and specifications of the smartphone have
emerged.
The S4 Active will have a 5-inch Full HD display just like the
recently launched Galaxy S4.
It will run on the Snapdragon 600 chipset and have a quad-core CPU
clocked at 1.9GHz along with the Adreno 320GPU. The rear of the S4
Active is will have an 8MP camera instead of the 13MP camera found on
the S4. The device will run on Android 4.2.2 and also show off the
Samsung TouchWiz UI.
In terms of its form factor however, the S4 Active
looks nothing like the S4. It has a better, more rugged build. The
smartphone comes in a metallic shell casing, which bolts to the back.
The standard capacitive and one physical button below the display are
replaced with three physical buttons. Gunning for the rugged
weatherproof build, we think the S4 will take on the likes of the Xperia Z, Sony’s latest flagship smartphone.
In other Samsung smartphone related
news, information from the WatchOn Samsung app suggests that an S4 Mega
along with the S4 Mini and the S4 Active are in the works. The Samsung
WatchOn app lets users control their Smart TV with their Samsung
smartphones. The app received an update adding support for the Galaxy S4
and the Galaxy Mega 6.3. The update information on the app also says,
“Adding support for the upcoming S4 Mega, S4 Mini, and S4 Active.”Rumours suggest that the S4 Active and the S4 Mega
will officially be announced towards the end of May and will be
available in June. The markets where these devices will launch first are
still unknown.The S4 Mini
and the S4 Active have been a part of the rumour mills for quite some
time now but this is the first that we have heard of the S4 Mega. It
seems that Samsung is bringing its flagship S4 branding and possibly
specifications to a variety of devices with different build and
exteriors. There is no information available about the specifications of
the S4 Mega but we think it will have a display around 6-inches to
qualify it under the Samsung Galaxy Mega family categorizing it as a
phablet.
