Bangalore: Facebook, world’s largest social networking company, has been regarded as one of the best places to work.

Glassdoor, the career site recently ranked the 50 best companies based on employee reviews and corporate data it collected. Facebook emerged as the best company to work for. The 28 reviews on Glassdoor found that Facebook pays its average intern $5,602 per month, more than what average U.S. citizen makes.

However, some Facebook employees, both past and present, in an open thread on Quora, divulged the details about the worst things about working for the social network. Read on to know 10 awful things about working at Facebook as compiled by Business Insider.

#10 "For six weeks out of the year, I'm on 24/7 on-call duty."

Every year, for six weeks, Facebook puts engineers on on-call duty; where they are responsible for keeping the service up and running, come what may. IFA 2013: Hands-on with the White Nokia Lumia 1020

Last month, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia made official a new Windows Phone 8 smartphone in its popular Lumia family of devices, namely the Lumia 1020, also the first in the series to pack a 41-megapixel photo snapper on the back. 

We found the handset displayed at IFA 2013 in Berlin in a Yellow coat, but also stumbled upon the white variant over at Deutsche Telecom’s stand, and snapped a few photos with it, for your viewing pleasure. 

Lumia 1020 was made official with about the same specs as the Lumia 920 before it, but with the aforementioned large camera on the back, and with 2GB of RAM inside, for increased processing power. 

It sports a 4.5-inch touchscreen, a dual-core processor, 32GB of internal memory, LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS receiver, and a front camera to enable users to make video calls while on the go.

PlayStation 4 Mass Production Already Underway, Leaked Images Show

A brand new leak shows images from the mass production and shipping process of the PlayStation 4, with boxes and pallets of the next-gen console being stored in a warehouse of a large manufacturing company that's set to produce over one million consoles for Sony alone.

The Xbox One entered production last week, with Microsoft even releasing photos of the actual production process.

Now, a leak via website A9VG has appeared alongside two photos showing actual PlayStation 4 retail boxes, as well as pallets filled with boxes of the next-gen consoles from one of the factories under contract with Sony.

According to the leak, that plant alone is set to make over 1 million consoles and it seems that Sony has placed orders at several factories in Asia to make enough PS4 devices to satisfy demand when the device is launched on November 15 in North America, and November 29 in Europe.

Developer Winocm, who is responsible for an untethered jailbreak on iOS 6.1.3, has published an image on Twitter suggesting that iOS 6.1.4 has been jailbroken on an iPhone 5.

A screenshot depicting Cydia on a 4-inch display (therefore an A6 chip) indicates that Wincocm has finally achieved an untethered iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak, just weeks away from the official release of Apple’s iOS 7.
Jailbreak fans may want to refrain from updating their firmware, as the jailbreak could be made public any minute now. Any new software updates released by Apple afterwards will surely break the hack.

Jailbreaking is nowhere near as popular as it used to be prior to the release of iOS 6, as Apple continues to fulfill demand for various features that were previously exclusive to people who hacked their phones.
One such example is the upcoming Control Center in iOS 7, which some would say is directly copied from jailbreak tweaks.

iPhone 6 with Much Larger Display Already in the Works [WSJ]

People familiar with the matter are telling the Wall Street Journal that “The electronics giant has begun evaluating a plan to offer iPhones with screens ranging from 4.8 inches to as high as 6 inches.”
This year, the iPhone screen size remains capped at 4 inches, according to the paper's sources, but the upcoming iPhones (in 2014 and beyond) are likely to get much larger displays. For multiple reasons, too.
Apple is reportedly “shifting its smartphone strategy as it searches for new engines of growth, and as competition with Samsung Electronics Co.”
When Steve Jobs was running the show, Apple was focused on a single iPhone refresh every year, and was reluctant to say “yes” to everything that was in somewhat demand.
This strategy, however, has proved awfully profitable for Samsung with its low-end smartphones.
While Apple isn’t ready to throw down the gauntlet just yet, it has ceded to developing a plastic-encased iPhone 5C for the 2013 iPhone refresh.
So it makes sense for the California-based mammoth to try and diversify its iPhone range even further. Next year promises to be truly dramatic, if rumors of Apple developing an iWatch are also correct.
The WSJ report also notes that Apple has seen an uptick in iPhone 4 demand in emerging markets, which fuels rumors that the iPhone 5C will be a huge hit globally.
The company has kickstarted trade-in programs to generate more store traffic and to make it easier for customers to walk out with a brand new iPhone purchased at a discount.
The iPhone 4S isn’t any less popular, and rumor has it that Apple might continue to produce the handset, even as it plans to discontinue the iPhone 5 to drive sales of the upcoming iPhone 5C.
“A person familiar with Apple's production also said the iPhone 4S is among the top products Apple continues to sell,” the finance newspaper reports.
Finally, the same “people familiar with the matter” are also telling the publication that Apple indeed plans to ship both the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S together, following the company’s ceremonious unveiling on September 10.

iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C Confirmed A post on Weibo stemming from China Telecom confirms the existence of Apple’s two upcoming iPhone upgrades, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C. Asian media outlets are reporting on a presumed blunder on behalf of the Chinese wireless operator, which reportedly spilled the beans on Apple’s upcoming iPhone refresh next week. China Telecom’s Beijing customer service Weibo account tweeted the following message, according toTechInAsia. “China has been chosen as [the/a]* first country where the iPhone 5S/5C will be shipped! Weibo preorder time! If you want to be one of the people who gets a handset on day one, click: . Those who successfully preorder will also enjoy a high-end gift bag. (Because the iPhone products haven’t actually shipped yet, detailed numbers and actual shipping information [may change].” A Sina post picked up by 9to5mac suggests that Apple indeed plans to ship the devices on September 20, while Chinese retailer Dixintong will reportedly begin carrying the refreshed handsets on September 25. It’s certainly not breaking news, since the two phones had already been confirmed thanks to the various leaks making the rounds on tech blogs and in several YouTube videos. A report by the Wall Street Journal also mentions the two handsets, though not with such degree of certainty. The biggest confirmation that these new handsets are arriving in China soon after launch probably comes from Apple itself. Earlier this week, the company released press invitations for two media events, one falling on September 10 in the United States, the other on September 11 in China. However, the biggest wireless operator in the country, China Mobile, remains (understandably) mum on a potential deal with Apple to carry the new iPhones for its 700+ million subscribers. After negotiating for years to create a profitable plan for both parties, Apple and China Mobile are finally in bed together, according to recent chatter in the mobile industry. Since this deal is so important, neither Apple nor China Mobile can afford to spoil the surprise.

Raspberry Pi, world's cheapest computer, goes past 1.5 mln units sales

The Raspberry Pi, world's cheapest computer, has seen sales going past 1.5 million units in just 18 months of its launch. The mini computer is said to be inspiring hobbyists and inventors around the world.

Developers of the Raspberry Pi, also dubbed as the $25 computer, are overwhelmed by the massive popularity and demand of the device across the globe. The Pi, which is a single circuit board with a size of a credit card with no screen and keyboard, has sold almost 1.5 million units in last one and half years.

“We're closing in on 1.5 million [sales] for something that we thought would sell a thousand,'' reveals Eben Upton, executive director of the Raspberry Pi Foundation. ''We've sold many more to children than we expected to sell, but even more to adults. They're using it like Lego to connect things up.''

The Raspberry Pi, launched last year, is considered to be an educational tool for children to learn coding. However, the device is now being used innovatively in various industries. According to reports, the device is now being used to power warehouse doors in Malawi, photographing astral bodies from the US and robots in Japan.

Tokyo inventor Shota Ishiwatari has developed a small humanoid robot run by a Pi, which tells the weather, manage diary and even make coffee.

“I wanted to create something by using a 3D printer and the Raspberry Pi – two cool items,” he told AFP, adding that he wanted to demonstrate the potential of the device. “Many Raspberry Pi users did not know how to have fun with the chip. I wanted to present practical ways to play with it.”

Upton and his colleagues had first thought of developing of cheap computer suited to programming when they were teaching at Cambridge University. They noticed the children of then generation did not have access to the day-to-day experience of coding that helped the computer geeks in 1980s.

“They didn’t have the grungy familiarity with the dirty bits, the hacking,” Upton told AFP. “The theory of computer science is math, but the practice is a craft, like carpentry.”

The Raspberry Pi features a Broadcom BCM2835 chipset, ARM11 processor of 700MHz, 256MB RAM, RCA and HDMI output, 3.5 mm audio jack, USB2.0 support, and is powered by 5V over microUSB. It can Linux and the plethora of software available for it, and even play videos in HD.

Windows To get Back its START MENU :_ LENOVO

Lenovo ties up with SweetLabs to bring Start Menu back to Windows 8

Clearly, the World's No.1 laptop manufacturer has decided not to wait for Windows 8.1 update that is due for release on October 17.

A lot of Windows 8 users had complained about the lack of the Start Menu in Windows 8, but till now, no one really had done anything about it. At least as far as OEMs were concerned. Now, Lenovo has decided to tie up with SweetLabs, a startup that has made the Pokki software for Windows 8. Pokki brings the Start Menu back to the Windows 8 desktop, in a similar layout to what users have seen in Windows 7 and earlier OS versions.

Lenovo, at the moment, is the world’s no.1 laptop manufacturer, having overtaken HP in the second quarter of 2013.

In a blog post, SweetLabs’ delight at the deal is clear, “We’re excited to announce that the #1 PC maker in the world, Lenovo, will be shipping Pokki on new Windows 8 devices worldwide! Lenovo will first install Pokki computers that will have English language set as default, but will eventually be installed on all Lenovo machines globally. SweetLabs is currently working on adding more languages to the Pokki software. The blog post says, “Even though Pokki has only known one language (English) up until now, we know that for the majority of our loyal fans and users, English isn’t your first language so we’re adding additional language support as quickly as we can.”

After receiving much criticism and feedback from users regarding the different desktop experience on Windows 8, Microsoft recently announced that the 8.1 update will bring back the start menu. This update will be available free to all Windows 8 users, from 17th October 2013.
